As a pharmacist, you recognize Nystatin as the clinical "gold standard" for treating localized Candidiasis. Unlike broad-spectrum azoles, Nystatin is specifically fungistatic and fungicidal against a wide variety of yeasts and yeast-like fungi, most notably Candida albicans. Product Usage & Administration

• Therapeutic Goal: To eradicate Candida species by disrupting the fungal cell membrane without affecting bacterial flora or human cells.

• Common Applications:

  • Cutaneous Candidiasis: Managing yeast infections in skin folds (axillary, inguinal, submammary).

  • Diaper Dermatitis: Treating diaper rash complicated by Candida overgrowth.

  • Intertrigo: Resolving painful, "beefy red" lesions with satellite pustules.

  • Paronychia: Treating fungal infections around the fingernails or toenails.

• Administration: Topical. Apply liberally to the affected areas 2 to 3 times daily until healing is complete.

• Pharmacist’s Note: As a professional, you should counsel patients that Nystatin is not effective against dermatophytes (like ringworm or athlete's foot) or bacteria. It is strictly for yeast. Advise patients to continue treatment for at least 48 hours after clinical symptoms disappear to prevent mycological relapse.
